Choosing a CRM Solution

When you are in the market choosing a CRM solution, there are a few points to note as follows:

(1) Do you want a web based or client-side system? There are differences between these two systems. The former (such as SalesBoom and Salesjunction) has several advantages such as its flexibility and accessibility. But if your employees have restricted access to the Internet, then an online system may not be suitable for your company's customer relationship management project.

(2) The next question is the CRM software. Choosing one can be a big headache because there is a huge array of solutions for a wide variety of business out there. But your focus should be on only one thing - the ideal software for your company must be one which meets the needs of your business. Your CRM software should cater to your company's needs and sales dynamics, and not the other way round.

(3) CRM softwares are not cheap, so if possible do try out CRM software vendors who can give you a free trial or evaluation. Such an offering will enable you to integrate the software, test its features and observe its ease of use in extracting information before making any commitments. Of course your marketing staff must be able to use this technology easily and efficiently, and that its presence adds to productivity, otherwise, chuck out the system and try another vendor or crm solutions.

(4) When choosing a crm solution, a good rule of thumb is to avoid boxed boxed CRM software which offers a one size fits all solution. This type of software is not meant for any particular customer, so if yours has a niche, then opt for one which is tailored to it.

Never simply adopt a system because a friendly salesman gave you a free CD or your next door vendor offers it to you. In a nutshell, the best thing when choosing a crm solution is to shop around as this will help you make an informed decision.
